Have you even been in Texas' Widelife Ranch or Zoo? Believe me, they are the best Most of these zoo/ranch/center allows you to drive YOURSELF, instead of having to be restrcted by the guided tour cars. Of course, you will see most of the mild, no harm, vegitable eating animals because of the open enviorment. However, in return you can pick the  spot, spend as long as you want and see the animals by your own choice, you also have plenty of chances to get close contact with those animals. They will pass by your car. You can greet them, touch them, and feed them with your own hands. Doesnt matter you are a toddler or 20 year old or uncle sams, you will have a lot of fun. It is a totally different experience from what you see in normal zoos.

        Fossil Rim Widelife Center is the one near Dallas. It located in Glen Rose,TX. Just one and a half hour south of Dallas. The address is: 2299 County Road 2008, Glen Rose, Texas, 76043. They open 7 days from sunrise to sunset, except holidays.  The price is reasonable at $17 per audlts with $7 to buy animal food to feed them. They also have camp and lodge to allow you stay overnight inside the ranch with animals, but the price is little high. All details can be found in their website:  www.fossilrim.org

        Once you purchased the tickets at the welcome center, you are driving into the wide lives. The road is one way from beginning to the end. No map will be offerred, just drive straight, no left turn or eight turn, even though you will pass a lot of intersections. Dont worry, the road will route you back. Along the road you can stop at any where you want, just remember to pack alongside to allow other cars to pass by. 

        The first gentlemen you will found are Ostriches, right at the door.

       Still blocked? No painic, once you drive through the ranch door, they will just by your side. And you will be suprised since you will notice that not only you see them, but they see you too and they know you have FOOD. What does that mean? They come directly to you!!!

         Passed the Ostriches, we met some antelopes. These little animals are the hosts of this ranch. They occupied most areas and can be seen everywhere. They move fast with agilities. They are not attracted by the car and human food, maybe because they like the fresh grass better?

        Like the formal widelife researches, all animals here are numbered. Look carefully, you can find the small tag at their ears. For example, the following deer has this styled dress.  

        Zebras are the neighbors of antelope and deers. But dont get them wrong. These fat, slow, lazy bastards LIKE YOUR FODD. And they will rob all your food even through the windows of your car. We had one coming and pushed his head inside and spend 10 miniutes to get him out. We lost half of our food and almost get the camera ripped off. Damn Bastards, be careful and close your window, if you dont want the encounter so close.
       But you have to admit, these are beautiful animals.

       Another beautiful animals are the giraffes. Most of  them are standing under the tree, not moving. Or, reallt? No, they are actually eating there. It is just because they are so big and tall. You hardly noticed the movement of their mouth until you got really close and pay attention.

And in fact, we are a big family.
